U47-style bodies - who can make one?

2nd round of prototypes have arrived.

There are still a few minor issues, though a definite improvement over the first batch.

I think I'd like them to do one more end cap to make sure they can get that part correct.
There are a couple of minor changes I can make in the design as well to ease production and assembly by the end user.

They still haven't got the headbasket top and bottom rings correct.
The first batch was good, but they didn't fillet the edges.
This time they CHAMFERED the edges instead of filleting! RRRRRRRRR

So, I'm working closely with a wire cloth company in Tennessee.
Their first quote on mesh was really good, and they have expressed interest in fabricating + assembling + finishing the headbaskets turnkey.
So, I'm going to give them a go at it and get some prototypes from them.
I'll be sending them the parts tomorrow probably.
If their pricing is reasonable, we'll have them do the headbaskets.
The other shop can focus on the other parts.

After assembling these two units, I can see why Neumann went with 3 inner rails in triangular arrangement—probably easier to assemble and a little more forgiving.
I can also see that the plug n' play headbasket design is really awesome (but probably expensive)!
Maybe the 2nd gen will have that design [IF there's a 2nd gen].

enough foreplay...

I think how the lexan capsule plate allows you to see into the body cavity is quite cool!

Oh, some extra notes:

If you go with the Peluso/Chinese style capsule mount, you will have to shim up a couple of mm to match the 45mm [capsule plate<--->capsule center] spec.
This may require that longer M2 screws be used.

The recommended mount is definitely the Thiersch STS-7.
Along with the capsule insulator plate, this option gives you 45mm exactly!
Plus it emulates the inner geometry of the U47's headbasket much closer.

Hi Skylar,
Maybe I'm paranoid but this second prototype bodytube looks rougher than the first, a kind of "banded" surface with jagged reflections that gives an impression of uneven machining.
Or is it just the pictures?
Sorry for whining...
Peps

The surface definitely looks "banded," but it's just as smooth & straight as the Round-I protos.

It's a non-issue, as these will be bead-blasted and plated.

Skylar,

AMAZING! Truelly a work of art and each refinement is a joy to behold. Thanks for all the effort and attention to detail. The new TN based company sounds promising, lets see what they can come up with!

Glad to see the screws in the picture  ;D Are they all working out? Just what you were looking for?

Cheers

Matt

Lookin' beautious Skylar. And the lexan capsule plate definately has a cool factor (think I'll back light mine :>). Seriously though, thank you so much for all your time and effort.....Lee.
