Hi all -
I have a vintage k87 capsule that needs some help.
Sent the U87 to Neumann, but they don't repair, they simply replaced it with a new k87.
I was wondering if anyone could point me in the direction of someone who knows how to assess
and rehabilitate an older piece.

it's missing one rear insulated linking screw. i have replacements here (all my parts are vintage compatible). Can you send me your address? I can send one, or to dave if you have him clean it.

Looks like it might just need to be cleaned. I just finished cleaning a vintage K67 (similar design, but older) for a client.
Wow...would that be a matter of releasing the mylar pads (for lack of a better word) and gently cleaning them?
This one was dated to Feb 1969 by Neumann.

I will gladly try a first pass of cleaning, but I've found that trusting a true specialist is always worth it.

This one was dated to Feb 1969 by Neumann.
The one I cleaned was dated 1962, so not too far off. It was the slightly older design with brass rings though.

Cleaning a capsule like this is not a simple process. It requires special brushes and a very careful hand. It is very easy to completely ruin the diaphragms accidentally.

I'm not sure what you mean by the "mylar pads," but nothing needs to be unscrewed or removed to clean it. As @soliloqueen pointed out though, it's also missing a screw, which should be replaced.

Rico and wave should be your first points of contact, but if they're unavailable or too expensive (Rico is great, but very busy and in Europe), let me know and I might be able to help you out.
 
Here in Italy there's a company called Side-b Studio that clean, repair and reskin capsules.
I sent them 3 of my Neumann (2 vintage u87 and a vintage u89) and one u87 was reskinned and there's no difference from its original diaphragms or the other one I have.
