Social distancing IS making a difference, but widespread testing will make a much larger difference....

antibody detection not yet available

Here it comes from South Korea:

http://investor.henryschein.com/node/21961/pdf

http://sdbiosensor.com/xe/product/7662

"STANDARD Q COVID-19 IgM/IgG Duo Test Kit is a rapid immunochromatography test designed for the qualitative presumptive detection of specific IgM and IgG to SARS-CoV-2 in humoral fluid.

Rapid testing for SARS-CoV-2 antibodies within 10 minutes
Just 10ul of specimen : Whole blood, serum , plasma
Suitable for Point of Care Testing. No need for extra equipment"

I should add, as it states at the bottom of the spec sheet, that the test may detect antibodies to other coronaviruses also, so not completely specific to the SARS-CoV-2 virus, though they state a specificity of 96.7%.

Here's another IgG/IgM test, but looks like a separate test for each antibody. IgM is the first to appear, then after a few more days  comes IgG and is long lasting and is the memory for the immune system. I don't know availability, and no serology test that I know of is approved by the FDA yet,  but these are trying times.

I didn't say "anything" because forum rules only prevent us from being a_holes to each other... Celebrities are fair game...

If i was in charge I would prohibit being disrespectful to anybody and every body but i am not in charge, I just take out the trash here as defined by the established rules.

PS: I guess I could twist the rules to protect non-members too... but life is short, and there would be too many violations.  ::)

I understand the sentiment of this clause for the forum. When people argue for a right for mass gatherings, there is no reason to assign logic to allowing these events at a time like this because of what one "believes".  This would then become a situation, like a circuit, to apply analytical problem solving to. I cannot suspend logic in regards to a scientific situation in order for my emotional ideology to prosper. I do not mean to attack religion, but if promotes large social gatherings at this current time, I must speak against it... the sun does not go around the earth.

Hooray for Mississippi... and Florida... more to come. Seriously, 4-6 weeks. Let's make this manageable and get back to business.

Sorry, I know this should be in COVID-19 politics, but the reply was most applicable here, and I just want to go back to work by October or November.

+1 on that...
i dont give a flying f@ why are u gathering at this point of life,
and putting all of us in danger!

i told from the day one... wear freaking mask to stop spreading it! how difficult to see that!

on the other hand..... if Trump came up and said we all have to wear masks.... imagine the mess!
this is catch 22 ... not easy.... Ian mention couple of times, its not easy decisions to  make......
but i still believe Boris  is a first class idiot*, and sitting with the rich people!

* since Boris is not a forum member, i should be freely call him the biggest IDIOT on human history!

What's the deal with vaporized Hydrogen Peroxide?
It is supposed to work as a general room disinfectant, I haven't tried it...  They sell inexpensive foggers/misters (<$20)

I use a UVc lamp for spot microbe removal, but not while I am in the same room, while the dilute H2O2  mist is supposed to be well tolerated by humans..

An ozone generator (use in a closed space with no people or animals present) might work. There is some evidence that it can inactivate a virus.

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC243766/

Of course, using an ozone generator has other risks. It can change relatively harmless substances into something more dangerous. For instance, people use it to get right of the smell of tabaco smoke in rooms. This creates really nasty ultrafine particles that can penetrate deep into peoples lungs and wreak havoc...

Would a fog machine be an option???

I used to have one of these..... I was told the Navy used to use them to simulate no visibility smoke situations.... it was crazy.....it fogged half the street....lol...used it once....

Military used smoke foggers for concealment, and when spraying CS (tear) gas for crowd control.

During basic training they made is stand inside a room full of CS gas and take off our gas mask to familiarize us with it (not fun).

It wasn't that bad (in my memory) - we crawled through it, and it was sort of a welcome relief from the snow and cold at Fort Lewis January 1969.
