I am still working with the factory to fix the remaining problems. They have been pushing back a little on wanting to fix these issues.
At first they said it was no big deal to resolve the imperfections, but now they're changing their tune, so I'm still negotiating with them.
If you've ever negotiated with Chinese businessmen, you'll know that they're not as yielding as westerners.
We should make some headway when I chat with them this evening; I'll keep you updated.

Oh, boy... that's what i've been afraid of since the start.  I thought things were  worked out before you took our orders?  Why were they able to make correct samples, but not the production?

They are way past deadline and now they are reluctant to fix problems... this is not looking good.  I hope you can stick to your guns and keep it true to spec and true to original standards.  Have you sent them our money?  Can you get a refund?  I think money talks, the rest they will ignore.

Yes, we approved a sample that is without flaws, but the production units exhibit flaws not present on the approved sample.
That's the basis of our negotiation leverage.

I have not sent them any money other than tooling costs from my own pocket.
We're still working things out, and we will come to a resolution soon.

I'd be game for a blemished unit as well, to be frank If anyone wishes to back out of their order or sell one if they ordered more, keep me in mind. (I only mention this because we are on the doorsteps of the holiday season).

Thanks, Skylar.  That's smart.  Good news.  In case it all falls apart you can at least refund us.  Sounds like you're on top of them.

I just don't trust them...  I believe it's in their business plan to cut corners.  And to cut quality.  And to gloss over it and negotiate their way out of it.  That's their normal mode of business.  You never get exactly what you contracted for.

I expected them to attempt to cut corners, and I'm sorry to see it happening.  (This is not towards any one group or country, or person, it's just based on all the other similar group buys that I've seen which involved custom manufacturing.  It's a very slippery business.)

skylar, thanks for staying on top of this.
i (and i'm sure most of us) am not interested in a refund, which would result in you getting screwed...

I could also buy a not so perfect body. But whats the plan, is it still do make some more batches? Is there any chance to add more
bodies to the rerun of the failed batch?

I'll add myself to the list of people that would be interested in a blemished body as well-- you're doing a great job, i'm sure they're going to be incredible when they're completely finished!

Of course I don't think anyone wants a refund yet, but in case the whole thing falls apart and there aren't any mic bodies made, then he really WOULD be screwed if he'd already sent them our money!  So it's better to keep that (refund) option open (not send the factory the money) until the bugs and issues are truly resolved.  It's obviously a worst case scenario, and I was just expressing my concern and sympathy about the situation Skylar is in on our behalf.

I've got an orginal U-47 (#38). They weren't rolling the metal for the bodies perfect,
so there are orginal pits in it. It still sounds beautiful blemishes and all.

C'mon fellows.

Skylar has worked with this thing allmost two years. Why to flush everything out from toilet now?
I'd like to have perfect mic body even I'm as impatient as everyone else.
Please do not push any more pressures over Skylar when he is so close to goal, right?

-Paavo

Well said Paavo ...... and it certainly would not be appropriate for Skylar to be saying to the manufacturer that we dont accept the quality on one hand and on the other hand btw can we buy the blemished ones!!

Skylar, I think you should sell the blemished ones.... for $400.

When the full batch meets all specs and are delivered by the manufacturer, the blemished ones will be the rarest of the rare! ;)

Patience guys. Some of you weren't even born... OK, weren't members when this project got started. If you're so impatient, go buy a friggin MXL or a Nady or whatever and rip the guts out. Skylar has taken this from a dream to within a blemish or two of reality. Yes, the Chinese company is doing the usual dance and will have to be schooled to some degree but it'll get done.

Me, I'll wait for the product to meet Skylar's expectations. I've watched all of this develop with a certain sense of awe. Waited this long... can wait longer.

I say let Skylar handle the situation. He's done a great job so far, and he's the one who dealt with the factory guys, so he knows them better than we do. Patience. Maybe we'll have to settle for less than perfect bodies, but why give up too soon? I'm sure Skylar will do whatever he can to make everybody happy.

Till then lets sing with Regina Spektor:
"I have a perfect body, though sometimes I forget.
I have a perfect body 'cause my eyelashes catch my sweat"
