Quick google search reveals a price of about $150 for the invision kit... The new one may be priced slightly different...

I would love a Binder type mount that screws on to the body/connector... Anyone have any ideas where to get something like that?

Cheers,
jb

In Europe Thomann has the smaller model for 83Euros, Canford.uk for 105Euros,
so i believe it will be about that 150Dollars for the bigger one maybe a little less...

Are there any plans to provide power supply boxes of the type written about in this thread: http://www.groupdiy.com/index.php?topic=32809.60

Thanks,

David

At this point, Equinox doesn't have any plans to do a power supply enclosure.  As Skylar mentioned, there were quality and pricing issues which made the project unfavorable, and we have turned our efforts elsewhere for the time being.

About that... are there any glimmers of what you guys will be working on / looking into? New kinds mic bodies (U67, M49, C12, KM54/84 .. )? More accessories for your best selling product (pop filters, cradles/mounts)? Different capsules or capsule materials?Ready made mics? Mod kits for existing mics? Sorry, I'm just throwing ideas around..

:p  me likey.....

Regarding an a/v mount, that for the MXL990 fits.  It may need a knot or two in the elastic when I have got all the components installed, but I am sure it can be made to work,  These are available on eBay for about $30.

Telefunken M470 shockmount, around 100.00$, 64 mm. Will it be too wide on 60 mm body..

Again, this appears to be the same Chinese mount seen on Ebay and elsewhere.  No idea why they would say it is 64mm --- that would be too wide.  The one I got from BeezNeez (identical to this) is about 63mm when unlatched and closes to 60mm, which, with the thin felt padding, is still not quite enough. I had to wrap the mic with a strip of painter's tape so it wouldn't slip out.  It's my "blue stripe 47."

These are certainly all ideas we have kicked around, but there aren't any solid plans worthy of an announcement at this time.  If we do get a project going that looks fairly certain to be a go, we will certainly make it a point to announce and discuss on these boards.

Thank you for the heads up. As a sort of a preliminary me-too, consider me very interested in any U67 or C12 bodies you might be coming up with :)

FWIW regarding the u67, check the legality of that, NOONE has reproduced the u67 headbasket and i'm fairly certain its because it was patented.

Could be dead wrong.

But i'd be into getting a u67 too.. maybe a c12 too.

ioaudio??? :p

Neumann seems to have started U67 production in 1960. I assume the patent is from that time, since it would be most beneficial to them to impede contemporary manufacturers when the model was new. US and EU patent laws allow for a 20-year base exploitation term and a 20-year renewal extension. I assume no more than 10 extra years have been granted some way or another (stalling, etc..). I'd assume a patent like that is not in effect in 2012..

So finally, I have my mic body and just want to say that I am very pleased with it. When I opened the box there was a little birthday greeting, with thanks from the Equinox team, which was a nice touch.  :)

The constructional issues that apparently were evident in the first batch have clearly been dealt with. The headbasket is superb, and the whole thing is very easy to put together - and the packing and presentation are also excellent.

I do have just one question about the finish on the body tube though, which I may as well direct to anyone that wants to chime in ... it's very sparkly and picks up fingerprints rather too easily and I am finding myself hoping it will dull down after a while - so I guess I am really asking, is this going to happen naturally or does the anodizing process effectively prevent it?

I don't really see myself handling this thing with rubber gloves forever and it would be cool to know that it's gonna begin to age gracefully at some point. Are there any tips for helping it darken down or should I not even think about that?

Cheers all.

I had the same reaction.  The original U47s that I have used were already over 15 years old when I first met them and the finish was already dull.  I am assuming that the battered look the mine will inevitably aquire over a short period of time will give it the look of a 50 year old mike -- it's a bit like the worn out jeans that people pay premium prices for!

Well, last night I decided to wipe the body tube down with some isopropyl-soaked cotton wool to get rid of my fingermarks - I figured that would be the best way to remove the grease without adversely affecting the surface - and made an interesting discovery.

The isopropyl not only removes the fingermarks, it also removes whatever residue is on the surface that makes them so obvious in the first place, so the finish is now much less prone to showing up fingermarks than before.

Not only that, but it has also slightly dulled the finish to a much more pleasing mid-grey, rather than the bright sparkly silver colour that it was straight out of the box.

I did this with the headbasket on, and now the contrast between the exposed part of the body tube and the bit at the top which is hidden under the headbasket is quite noticeable.

I have no idea of the chemistry at work, just thought I would share.  :)
