I have already built two 51x racks with powersupplies in the first round. The PSU's are in non-19" enclosures and I would like to keep them that way. However, I do feel that my PSU could use some pimpin' so I am thinking of maybe adding the heatsinks, which I am delighted to see are sold seperately. Could you give me the measurements for these heatsinks and also, do they come with the T (or L?) connecting brackets? Secondly, I think I might want to swap my rectifiers for the bigger model, would you mind letting us existing customers know the order numbers for these, so we can swap them out?

Thanks for the intense research, sahib. If I was building from scratch I would probably go for the whole shebang, alas I am already running two racks and just want to be on the safe side temperaturewise, for the future.

I apologise for the tabs to go all over the place. They all look fine on preview but buggers up on the post.

Brio,

You are welcome. I have just updated the post. Yes the heatsinks come with the T bracket.

I will certainly post the heatsink dimensions. The order code for the bridge rectifier is also added.

By the way, if you are running two racks please do give your feedback on the perfromance of the psu as it will be most valuable.

You are right Sahib, there are a few parts that differ, but i will fix that so that we are consistent with each other. thanks for mentioning that I have them as well.

Cheers

Cemal/Volker,

I am getting some emails on the PSU parts and kits. A question has came up that I am not sure about so I figured I would post it here rather than email behind the scenes. Was a determination ever made for LED/fuse indicator PCB? I think we should definitely come to an agreement and get these going to add to the kit as well.

BTW, nice work Cemal.  ;) It is easy to see you have spent a lot of time on all of this for us.  ;)

Best, Jeff

Jeff, very good (and costly) question ...

you know my vote is the passive yellow / red way, Cemals more for active green / red / blinking.
we never discussed or decided to the end.
next question would be how to mount it
(I have searched, but didn't find any PCB mounted fuse holders with full front panel mounting support, which would be easiest)

opinions?

Jeff / Volker,

I am not fussy about the visual indicator. As you know I also designed another one that flashes when the fuse is blown and disables the other rail. But as Volker said it is all cost and the question is, is it worth?

At the moment let's keep it pasive as Volker suggested. If there is interest to the active versions then we can always offer them later.

I think this will do just fine:

http://search.digikey.com/scripts/DkSearch/dksus.dll?Detail&name=WM4657-ND

http://search.digikey.com/scripts/DkSearch/dksus.dll?Detail&name=WM2128-ND

Anyway search Rectangular connector Housing/Receptacle in whatever supplier, and 3.96 pitch

PS: Don't forget you need the crimping connectors, i had in stock and i think it's these:

Yes, I have gotten a good amount of emails. Unfortunately, I have not been able to respond to each one on an individual basis. I am keeping them in an email folder for the PSU and related parts requests. I will be in touch with you guys when I get a more firm delivery date from from our friends over by there;)

Is there a BOM for those of us who want to buy the components ourselves? I wanted to know what model number to use for the transformer. And....

I feel like I know the answer to this following question already, but is the whole kit really $600 in US dollars?

Any ballpark pricing on the rack kit when it becomes available? I need to start some serious budgeting for these pricey endeavors...

Thanks
Brice

didn't you see the RS order codes next to Cemals parts ???
in addition, I think you didn't looked in the official GDIY51PSU Help & Support Thread

if you order from me it is: TRX-R2-0188-0003
well, this is not a standard transformer sold everywhere, if you want the specs look again in the official GDIY51PSU Help & Support Thread and you can ask any transformer maker for a quote.

once we know the final price for the next batch it will be posted.
exchange rates changed, 7pin Neutriks are added, etc

hope this helps

I saw the part numbers on Cemals post. I was referring to everything else. However, I do need to do more research. Quite overwhelming. I was hoping the PSU would be a little more affordable, so I am trying to figure out a way to get it done under $400 USD. YIKES!

Thanks,
Brice

That's what my calculations work out to.  I have no doubt that the cost is completely fair, but I think it's interesting to note that the BAE 11 space rack comes out to about the same price as the 51x with this PSU kit.  Perhaps the pricing of commercial 500 series racks is more reasonable than many of us believed at the beginning of this journey.
