GssL 20th Anniversary edition

Do you reckon this build is too hard for someone a few steps above beginner? This has all the features I want and I have been wanting to do DIY that's not a complete kit, I just worry it would be out of my league.

I've done Capi VP28s + opamps with no issues and feel relatively competent reading BOMs.

I cant say, but this is easier to do than the existing GssL board with any mods added for sure.

Front panel is still missing angular markings for knob position.....@ 11mm knobs. Hmm. Last time I used an online generator to generate these markings and then placed them into the front panel design.

Do you mean that with something like "sections bypass jumpers"
it would be more easy for beginners ?

About the 20th edition also in 500 shape as well,
wouldn't be an evil thing at all .

Front Panel Designer has had a scale generator in the program for the past several updates. Much easier now.

wow. I dont know whats going on here I dont know what the difference is between the g bus and anniversary edition... but adding color modules and DOAs??? sounds rediculous nobody cares about color modules..

My main issue with the Gssl is the friggin attack and release times. I feel like they're just never "right." I'm never going to build this or buy these boards or whatever. I'm just like. all of this concern about the "color" of the unit?? like dude. the attack and the release are the main issue with the gssl in my opinion. I dont know if a fine trim fixes it, or more connections on the rotary switch or whatever, but man, the attack and release on the gssl SUCKS as an outboard unit. I think that a gbus just sounds so different when it's installed in a console versus when its used as outboard. two completely different devices in my opinion, from a user standpoint. like its cool on a console. but outboard its just wonky and different, but better in a sense too. but the attack and release make no sense on the outboard. IMO.

The 2u front panel looks pretty rad actually...in a neat way. Needs a hole for power switch. Probably right beside the meter.

If I may, maybe add radial footprints for the PSU electrolytics? And why not fuses for the secondary side of the powertx, if there is room?

Looking forward to the day I can draw out a pcb like this. I hoped that was, at least in part, what I was going to learn at electronical engineering uni; but all we do is math and (vanishingly little) circuit analysis. PCB design? Seems to be something I have to figure out on my own.

Most of my classmates think that opamp IC's sare triangle shaped (you know, like on the schematic). We get next to no practical hands on building experience.

My disappointment is tangible. I guess we're all supposed to be code writers, analog technology is past tense and assembly is for machines
I want to build, use my hands... not get stuck in front of a computer all day... again.

Anyhow; gonna build this one day :=) Just gotta sort out my backlog

I really like the colour format. It's a great way to get into audio electronics, schematics, understanding and prototyping on your own. And to not say the least: pretty useful in my analog chain.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, naturally, but I'm really glad it's there on this version! Great job!

Board is rev 1.

I have 5 boardsets left.

Only boards I will offer are the current ones. Interest has been pretty low, and expenses have exceeded what has been covered on the boards.

When the casing is also done and completely verified (I recently got very busy, someone else might beat me to the casing part), I will upload the final version gerber to the group, so anyone can order their board anywhere they like


PS - my own casing test will be 2RU. I couldnt bring myself to do something with those tiny knobs (attached FPD file in zip format).
