Well looks like they are meeting to release trumps tax returns. By they I mean house ways and means comity. I don’t care about his tax returns. What is most important and concerning here is that if they can do it to him, they can do it to you.
It’s never been a requirement of that position to release their tax records, a document between that person and the irs.
This sets a bad precedent.

The House Ways and Means committee could always do it to you under law. They had trouble getting it from the President. They are supposed to be able to get any tax return they wish.

Let the downward spiral begin.

After this maybe we can get a thread on all the famous musicians who died in 2022 to get us in the Holiday spirit.

Under what delineated power of Congress?

They had trouble getting it from the President. They are supposed to be able to get any tax return they wish.
And even if they have voted to allow themselves this power to obtain such info, what allows them to make it public? If you can't see the danger here, maybe do some more thinking.

"Sunlight is the best disinfectant."

This quote is from Louis Brandeis, American lawyer and associate justice on the Supreme Court of the United States from 1916 to 1939. Incidentally he helped develop the "right to privacy".

Holding those in power accountable is the goal. So, quite obviously "if they can do it to him, they can do it to you" is a false equivalency here.

Except he currently is a private citizen, not in power.

So why are the Democrats helping to hide the Biden's business dealings? Or the FTX "donations" in the last election cycle? Or the inward turned spying by our too numerous and too powerful "intelligence" agencies? The hypocrisy is apparent.

And, as pucho noted, Trump is not serving in public office. What legislative purpose is served by making these materials public?

And BTW, even the current ultra-right-wing Supreme Court stuffed with Trump and Bush appointed judges actually ruled that it is within the powers of the US congress.
