Yesterday I used 190', today 200'. 200' is better for my scenario, IMO

It is often a good idea to retest ASSumptions, even by accident sometimes. I am pretty happy with my latest temperature regulated kettle. It even remembers the last temperature I selected so I don't have to reselect every time. BUT..... when we lost power briefly Saturday night when that EF0 tornado came through my smart regulated kettle lost its memory. My next batch of coffee inadvertently boiled the water to 212' when I didn't reset the temperature.

This definitely confirmed that coffee brewed with 200' water is superior to coffee brewed with 212' water. There was a hard to describe off flavor from brewing with the too hot water.

I know the one. To me, it tastes subtly like burnt plastic smells, or maybe how electronics that have released the magic smoke smell afterward.

The same shutter that got ripped off by the EF0 tornado, got ripped off again.

This time it got shredded

I am having difficulty trying to put humpty back together. I need to tear it completely apart, and rebuild it from the bottom up as that is the better side strut. Trying to fit vanes back into the middle slots kept causing other vanes to fall out.... argh. This is a cheap cosmetic shutter and probably 75 years old. They no longer make cheap cosmetic shutters out of wood. Modern cheap ones are vinyl/plastic.

If I remount this I will try to use proper screw anchors instead of long wood nails. I was surprised that the original nails didn't hold, but you know the old saying "fool me twice shame on me".

You might want to scrape off the rest of those mud dauber nests to improve the looks.

The white side is the back of the shutters. The outside is painted dark brown. All the wasp nests have been cleared from the shutter and my brick wall where the shutter was, but the wasps made their nests behind the shutters while they were attached to the wall. You know how those mud daubers roll.

[edit- speaking of wasp nests, several years ago I painted my house. I hate painting but hate paying good money for such mindless work if I have time to burn. While scraping the ceiling of my carport before painting, I found a mud dauber wasp nest completely encased in paint by the lazy puke who painted my house the last time. [/edit]

Plan B worked better... today I attached all but one of the vanes into the better one side strut. I dosed them with a bunch of gorilla glue and will let it set overnight. I don't expect the 1/2" gap to be objectionable. Life is too short to make this perfect. ;)

I checked the old nail holes in the mortar (between bricks) and those holes are sloppy. You can see one of the original nails sticking out of the other side strut. I will use screw anchors and screws when I reattach this puppy after I get it back together.

I got humpty mostly back together. I even hit it with a coat of the original paint color I had left over from last time I painted my house. It will dry darker, or not (I might have to age it another ten years). The bottom corner that is torn up is from the nail still stuck in my brick veneer. I couldn't break that one nail loose with my claw hammer. There is one extra piece of that puzzle left over a 1" vane that did not fit. Now all that's left is to secure it to the front of my casa better than it was.

PS: free drums anybody?
