Oh boy, can't we just get on? Seriously, who of you would even have noticed, if Skylar hadn't pointed you toward the non-biased basket top mesh?

Again, we're just talking about the lower two layers in the roof part of the basket! The top layer is correctly aligned, and the sides of the basket (which are all that really matters) are perfect. IMO this is really no big deal. The waiting is worse.

Skylar has been very honest, as always, to point it out.
And yes, it would have been unlikely that anyone noticed it.
But that doesnt mean at all that the issue is irrelevant.

I, for me, am still not convinced that the change of [at least] the interior reflections, due to the different meshes orientation,
is negligible.

I repeat, I dont have the skills to understand if the orientation issue is relevant, but assuming that it is not, and defining it a "cosmetical" thing, without studying and having understood it, is good for my whishes, not for my brain.
Perhaps its just me, I'm not at all an expert on mic basket meshes orientation.

As for the "there are other discrepancies between this diy mic project and the original Neumanns, tubes, trafos, etc" argument, well, thats obviously true, but having an original tube is nearly impossible, having the meshes correctly oriented, no.

Skylar, is it possible to know if on the next batch these damn cheaters will do the job correctly?
[well, I know, its a bit of nonsense to ask this.. see the samples history..]
Or, well, maybe someone will chime in and give a good explanation on how this whole thing is irrelevant.

A huge thanks for all your work on this.

Finally it's moving forward!

Be honest now, would you have noticed if Skylar hadn't told you? Seriously.

I own a nice collection of microphones including a genuine U47 and have reviewed a good number of microphones. Trust me, it's a nonissue. There are a whole lot of points that will have more impact on the sound. If you don't have a genuine K47/K49 capsule from Neumann, dont worry about a slight difference in a not hugely important part of the basket design. Be honest: can you even imagine being able to hear that slight difference in the mesh in a blind test?

The biggest problem with regards to time it seem, is the communication turnaround. Skylar talks to his contact then his contact talks to his manager or whoever in his own time because he or she is in no rush, then the next person in the change dies the same thing, then it all eventually gets back to skylar.

Rinse and repeat.

Hopefully, no matter what the outcome, all is resolved soon.

While looking for transformers for the pair of U47's I am going to build with skylar's bodies I stumbled accross this

http://www.tab-funkenwerk.com/id63.html

For those who desperately want a U47 body and can't wait for the second batch etc..., it appears as though there is another source. I personally feel much better supporting the hard work and dedication skylar has put into this. Despite the extremely insignificant mesh problem, I feel like these body's are going to allow a lot of people have a microphone they have always wanted, at least that's the way I feel. The AMI bodies aren't cheap, but they're less than the FLEA bodies; but to my eyes skylars bodies nicer and more DIY friendly plus they're half the price so...I'm sticking with the two I have. But I thought I'd spread the word

Also, they have a schematic for building a point to point version of a U47 with an EF14, EF80 or EF800 tube; using their U47 repro xformer which is what I plan to do with one of my bodies. The other I'm going to experiment with.

Now if only somebody would make an M49, ELAM 251, and U67/87 body for a decent price.....imagine that!

Guys, thanks for the comments, really.
but the issue, for me, remains.

I mean, I dont have some correctly aligned basket's meshes vs wrongly aligned to make a test.
So, I'll stop repeat this rant here, and will do, if I can, some tests with different meshes, and/or will go to seriously study the thing.

Maybe Skylar could do this test if he already have a mic circuit working. Should not be difficult to swap one 'correct' headbasket with a 'wrong' one.

Guys, thanks for the comments,

Don't be upset 1954U1. I once was concerned about a pair of mic (U87ai) one of them with a serious 'impact' on the front grid . I did some test with both mic in front of a (good) speaker for repeatability of differents sound used to test both mic. It was impossible for me to identify the damaged mic from the other one in good shape.

Maybe this case is different (or i'm deaf  ::) )  but i doubt it can be worst than this...

Skylar, I have since moved address. How can I update you of my current shipping address?

Regards
JD

Email sent to: support (at!) equinox systems (dot0) net

Let me know if you got it and my details have been updated.

Thanks
JD

To me, my two bodies look awesome!! And i doubt that the mesh will make a big difference compared to all other parameters affecting sound, but im no expert at acoustics by any means.

two big thumbs up for skylars excellent work in any case!

So, shipping has begun and you've recieved yours in Sweden?  Very, very good news  :)

Im not sure if shipping officially has begun yet, I got an email from skylar that i was selected to recieve my bodies before most people so that i could approve before he sent out the rest (or something like that).

Havent heard from him since about requesting feedback, but to me they look gorgeous!

Skylar, I have moved since I placed my order. I emailed equinox systems about my change of address a few days ago and haven't heard anything back. If the bodies have already gone out, no big deal I can have the package shipped to me from my previous address, but if it's still possible to change my shipping address let me know. Thanks. Can't wait!
