This is correct.

However, I have 12 complete sets of 511 rack which I can ship within 7-10 days. I have already e-mailed to the guys in my waiting list. But if you are in UK or the rest of the world please contact me on [email protected] . If any of the guys drops out then it will be offered to the next person in the list.

I apologize if this is a silly question:
The 51x GDIY Rack is like a 500 series compatible lunchbox, right? Is the PSU a separate unit?
Thanks for your replies.
Cheers

Yes, like that only better!  ;D  http://www.51xaudio.de/alliance/index.html

What is the size of the transformer?
I would like to build 2 power supplies but i dont like to "waste" 4HE 19 inch for a non music device.
What would be the smallest housing for the power supply, yet having sufficient airflow for a fully loaded rack?

you can easily fit a "dual psu" in a 2 HE rack with volkers transformers. no need for 4HE...

Thanks Ultra-Alex for the answer.
How deep should this case be to prevent it from becoming a heater? Can you recommend a case with good thermal behaviour?
I probably go with the GDIY511 heatsinks unless there is a case with integraded heatsinks.

i used this case http://www.modu.it/pesanted.html. 2/300B 2U 4mm black.
mounted both torodials in the middle. enough spot for the pcbs left and right. voltage regs to the heatsinks on either side.
hope that helps.

Looks good! Are those silent:arts transformers?

yes.

Is the heat dissipation for these heatsinks enough for two fully loaded racks?

can´t answer that sorry. but i´am optimistic. :D
i think volker [silent:arts] used the same case. maybe he can comment on that...
cheers, alex

Scroll back couple of pages and read my tests.

This is our psu with example of internal wiring layout. However, the first two pictures belong to the prototype that I used for testing. I have replaced the heatsink with a cheaper alternative. It has the same surface area as the previous one (in fact slightly more) but I eliminated the T brackets. Also on the production ones I eliminated the ventilation holes for the transfromer as it does not heat-up enough to require them.

I used much larger silpad. Also the insulating washer is inserted through the back, which means the mounting screw is in contact with the regulator tab but insulated from the heatsink. This has got advantage. Not only it provides a tighter grip, but also eliminates the danger of regulator tab short circuiting to the heatsink/ground through a contact with the screw head.

The heatshrink is applied to the pins and they are carefully bent.

I soldered three way headers for convenient connection of the regulators. The wires are soldered onto the headers and heatshrink applied. Now you may immediately think why not use connectors. Possible, if you use high quality ones with the correct current rating. But my preference is to solder.

I was just reading over the 51X project outline and do you guys think that the expanded capabilities of this box will provide a platform for people like Igor and Gustav to do boards that take advantage of the higher voltage? Are there any already in development that anyone konws about? That would be pretty sweet to start to see some DIY projects coming out that are exclusively available for GDIY51x builders/owners. Cheers! ;D

wait for the Jensamp 51X, it will defiantly be 51X only.

Any idea when we'll be seeing the Jensamp??? I'm itching to get a couple (pairs).

Also, can you give any details about the Georgamp that you mentioned on here previously? I can't find any info on it.

Thanks

We have a prototype of 12 slot case but for it to go into production we need quantity. I have no problem of getting small batches done but they will be expensive.

we will see ones it is time to release details. but for sure you know Georg Neumann ;)

Ok, hopefully i am not a pain in the ass and if so, i do apologize but is there a way to know if one is on the list of the next rack round ?
I am thinking about ordering some 500 projects but that wouldn't be so wise if at the end i am not on the list of the racks.

Thanks

Flo

Hi Flo,

if you order today you will be for sure on the list :)

basically, if we get too much orders:
a third run shouldn't take that long.
I ordered the Neutrik connectors for 200 racks, so did Jeff for the card edge connectors.
we would only need to wait for the metal work.

however, I will talk to Jeff and Cemal if and how we are publishing a list.
