I have a 500 rack running BUT NOT a 51x series rack
[ have the rack  , need to get the psu together ]

[ had past problems with built in thermal fuse ,
BUT that with with a tube gtr amp ]

We have the first batch of 20 for 511 and we are waiting for the remaining 80 which is about to be completed.

I have already came up with a cost effective alternative to the heatsink arrangement and looking into getting indentation on the case to hide the screw head for transformer mounting. That will eliminate the transformer mounting plate, hence further savings. However, this can only happen if we can get a reasonable interest. Just stay tuned for a couple of more days.

A couple of quick questions regarding the ordering process: First off I infer that the "kit" includeds everything in the list below and the price of the kit is the sum of all individual prices.  Is this correct?

I am not sure who Jeff is or how to contact him.

This seems to be an order  only for the PSU and does not include the actual 51X rack.  I have not bought the 51X rack yet but want to and hope to get some reassurance that if I purchase and build the PSU there will be a forthcoming run of the actual racks.

Just a bit of confusion on my end!  Looking forward to this project!



1. Blank PCB £20.00
    It does not include any components. Just bear pcb.

2. Toroidal power transformer £38.00
    It does not include any mounting screw or bracket.

3. 2RU case £118.00
    It does not include the components but with all the mounting and ventilation holes cut out and the gold
    finish front facia.

4. Heatsink kit £30.00
    It includes the mounting screws. However, you will require heat transfer compound.

5. Power Supply Electronic Components £74.70
    It includes every single components including the insulators and mountings screws/washers for the
    regulators.

6. Electrical wiring £60.10
  It includes all the connectors and even the hook-up wires

The prices above indeed for the power supply only.

We are running a second batch of one hundred 511 case. We have 20 in stock at the moment and the remaining 80 is about to be completed. I have not checked the progress with the fabricator lately but it is a matter of days. We have the Neutrik and edge connectors in stock too and I believe Volker is expecting the PCBs any minute.

There will be a very small increase in 511 price due to price increase in Neutrik and edge connectors. We have not made up the sums yet  but it will not be significant.

So, do not worry. Your 511 is safe.  In fact we have enough connectors in stock for 200 cases.

Now, Jeff is Mr Classic API (Classic Audio Products of Illinoi). He handles the US and Canada sales. He is a great chap but with a very minor bad habit of making his customers exteremely happy. So, beware.

I think I missed this somewhere in the thread, but is the PSU all ready to ship out now? Considering placing my order this week, but wanted to get an idea of when I'd receive it. Also I know the racks are on their way as well, but is there any more updates on when they should be shipping for those of us in the States?

GDIY 511 and power supply cases are planned to be shipped to Jeff and Volker around 25th July. Hopefully by beginning of August they  will be in a position to ship.

UK and the rest of the World guys are all within my responsibility. Some of them have already contacted me and I have them in my waiting list. I will be away between 30th July and 17th August but before I go I will ship their orders.

Volker has just organised a new e-maill address to contact us. He'll announce it soon. Any e-mail that is received will automatically be copied to all the three of us. If you are in US you'll hear from Jeff, EC guys will hear from Volker and as I indicted above UK and the rest of the World guys will hear from me. Please note that the guys whom have already contacted us do not need to contact us again on this new e-mail address.

We are sorry that this is taking a bit longer but we are almost there now.

And as for the racks themselves? I'm starting to gather that this seems to be more of a pick up an item here and there DIY project as opposed to buying a whole kit from one person. I also understand that I might be on the front end/eager beaver of this project so that the parts simply don't exist in one place yet. So, are our respective region distributors going to have the Power Trafos, cases, and essentially every item needed to make this project fly or is it still up to us to source other such parts and materials?
