Although this sounds nice, ill put up a sound file soon, the output level is low more so then the K2. I'm pushing the mic pres on my interface fairly high.
Would matching the BC550/560 hFes help with this or should look elsewhere? I have ordered som more 550/560 Bs so I can try and match them as bes I can.
Stop comparing to K2.
Rode has a higher output level.
To preserve the historical character of the sound I think what you got now is correct. A higher level will push the transformer harder into saturation, you will have higher harmonics, distortions, a different sound character.

Hey @Plonker !
Now I remembered!
Be aware that you can find good components on AliExpress, including BJTs and jFETs.
I found for example 2SK30A which have the same specifications as Toshiba, including proper Idss and low noise and very consistent. I have to look for the seller's link, it was very serious. It was last year.

This is my first mic build and I've already run into a quandary. I wanted to use the Cinemag CM 13101 I found on this website
https://store.studio939.com/product/ami-microphone-transformers

But the schematic is just wire colors that don't line up (green, red black etc.). I've also noticed that there doesn't seem to be threaded holes like in the images for the UTM transformer - would it work like I have shown in my images? Maybe double sided foam tape? Not certain how to secure it.
How is fixed the transformer? I don't see any screw. Just Epoxy?
