I have ordered 3 of the MXL-990 shockmunts (the name is MXL-90) and will tell you what I think of them.

Damn, I wish I waited a little longer to buy a shock mount, that ebay one looks pretty nice. I ordered a mxl 70 model and it has all the quality of hair ties and a coat hanger. Good thing the mic has a screw on cable. I hope VanGenz has better luck with the 90 model.

don't rush to buy the ebay mount...mine just arrived and it is for a 55mm mic body...
contacting the seller to find out if it is a mistake

EDIT: I sliced away most of the foam padding in the ring and, though it looks hacky, the 60mm body fits well.

It's my birthday in two weeks.

I'm waiting for the postman.  ;D

We're doing the next round of orders this evening, which means yours will ship tomorrow. Hopefully you'll have a nice birthday!

Here's what scares me about that eBay auction:
Wow, take a look at the the QM-17! The QM-17 creates isolation from mic stands and vibrations that can create noise on recordings. Fits many large diaphragm condenser microphones:
With Fiber ring:        2.15-2.26" (54.5-57.5mm)
Without Fiber Ring:  2.3-2.4" (59-61mm)
Be sure you order the correct shock! Check the diameter!

Let me get this straight...they want us to remove the protective padding so that it will fit a 60mm mic? No sir, I don't like it.

On the ebay mount...with the foam ring removed it appears it will fit a 60mm body, but there is no felt pad to prevent scratches.

btw... have the mic bodies actually shipped?  I got a Paypal message on Tuesday saying it was on its way, but checking the tracking just now, it doesn't appear to have been sent yet. ???  I scheduled time this weekend to work on this, so I really hope it is in transit.  I got two other Priority Mail notices the same day and both arrived today.

All orders placed on Oct 7–9 were shipped on Tuesday. So, yes, your order is on its way.
There were a couple special exceptions, but those people have been sent emails and should know who they are.

thanks...just a bit worried because USPS doesn't know they've got it...

On those Ebay shock mounts: I compared it to the one I got from BeezNeez last year (also from China). The size of the clamping ring is exactly the same. The overall quality is one notch down from that one, but okay for the price. The BeezNeez mount uses a thin felt pad (that's never quite tight enough). It also uses a wire lever to tighten the clamp, whereas the Ebay mount uses a knurled bolt, which may be safer.

So, if I remove the foam pad and glue in a felt pad, the Ebay mount should work about as well as the other one.

btw...I make sure to never leave the mic in the mount without the cable attached and secured, so I don't trust them very much...

That's my usual experience with USPS tracking. Two days after I get the package they update the status to received. I usually dont check their site anymore.

Unfortunate, but true.

So, the MXL-90 shockmount works. It's not the highest quality, but it's inexpensive and works.
If you want something nicer, there are all kinds of options out there for you in the $100+ range.

It's here! ...and it's beautiful. It fits together even better than the first one. The new capsule mount is very clever. Love the tiny straight slot screw.

Now to make a cable and prepare for my weekend 47 shootout festival with two MK47s and a Beezneez K7, a ChuckD M7, and a Q47-D.

Big thanks!

Awesome. Snap some photos if you can.

Looking at mine now .
The mesh lines up better on the new ones , support arms are at 90 degrees .
In general all the line up is better , although on one of mine the set screw for the body to bell cap
is a hair off .

How conductive is the capsule mount?

In short, not conductive enough to be measurable on any equipment we have.

The mount is made from a special formulation of polychloroprene developed by one of our partners in California who had initially created the material for use with tranducers in boom mics and other location film applications. We worked together to further refine the material for the studio environment. This particular formulation is trademarked "Iso-Q". Our friends in California have become experts in transducer isolation over the years, and they did an outstanding job manufacturing our design.

Chloroprene/neoprene is used as an electrical insulator in many industrial and consumer applications.
