hey thats what I do too... wait, are we still talking about DIY  ;)

Anyway, these look sick. If all goes well could you see yourself doing other designs (thinking macoroni).

ha ha..

I can see no reason at all not to do other Marconi styles, in the case of the clear skirt, you would just mold that separately from the top part and bond them together, then you are good to go.

So yes, It's some thing I'm thinking about..

Cookin..

Nice, rock on!

Ususally the skirts like this just press fit to the underside of the properly
made knob.

truth.  in this case, it's just a matter of getting the mating angle between the skirt and pointer/tail right.

Finally took some pics!  There are more at groupdiy:
New knobs from Chandler for reference

The Stockli has a more straight skirt, and you should be able to get an angle from the picture.

Thanks Mike,

Really appreciate that.

I very much prefer the Stockli. Altogether a much better looking knob.

Should have some samples in the next few weeks..fingers crossed it all works that is...

Cheers

Hi Mike,

here is an up-to-date version I plan to make in the coming weeks, I did this tonight based on your super pics!  ;D

I think it's as far as i can take it, considering I know nothing about 3D modelling I think its come out rather well. Maybe not an exact replica but not far off...also some of the 'rounding of the edges' i will do by hand on the wax positive, so that top edge of the main body will have a smooth roll off to it in the end...buggered if can get Rhino to do it..

Now the moulding? molding? i dont know which! but it begins...
Best
Pete

That looks finished except for the smoothing.
The next hurdle is the same one that the Marconi thread is contemplating- costing local manufacturing.
I can give a Long Island factory a file for bid if you want.

This would be totally awesome!
These small types seem to be very rare and hardly come up on ebay...

Just as a matter of interest, did Chandler make their own version of the Stockli knobs ?
Or did they use the expensive Monaco originals.
(I can't imagine them paying the outrageous prices Stockli are quoting!)

I notice that SmallBear (excellent parts supplier) have had custom knobs made - chicken head types mainly.
They mention Davies Moulding and 'Taiwanese clones'. Maybe something along the same lines for the Stockli design might be feasible?
I guess it's a matter of quantity as to whether doing clones like this is worthwhile.

Anyway, keep up the good work.

Actually, I've just had a look on the Davies website. Check out:

Types 1919 and 2150 don't look too far away!

These Stockli/EMI knobs are some of my favorites knobs ever ! It would be awesome if you made them, totally in !!!!
barclaycon, I have some 2150 from Davies molding. If they are really cool knobs, I don't find them to look like the Stockli, too much chicken-head like. But again, they look really cool and are top quality.

Hey Chaps,

well just an update really seen as you are posting stuff, been mega mega busy with panels, But last week I did manage to make a single knob! it turned out OK, like my very first engraving, OK but not brilliant, so, i've bought a few more things to help, just waiting for them to turn up, when they do i should be good to make "V2", hopefully i can show you this if it comes out as expected..

whether i can make 1000's....well that's another matter entirely!

Pete

hey, didnt see this thread, these are nice knobs too! just looking at the 'porn' marconi knobs and saw the brass inserts dont seem to be available.

you could use a dremel down the middle of a wire terminal block and you have lots of nice premade brass inserts with screws.

what kind of price do you think you would you be looking at if you are planning a small run of these knobs?
especially the clear skirt ones.
ta :)
